Seasons Changing Skin Changes

Bonita, now that the season is changing it’s  very important to change your skincare regimen seasonally.  The condition of your skin changes from day to day and seasonal changes such as wind or cold weather can cause it to dry, crack, or easily scar if not properly cared for. In order to prevent early signs of aging, be sure to exfoliate and moisturize regularly. Also, don’t forget to make regularly scheduled visits to your dermatologist at least twice a year.

Your eating habits have a direct impact on your overall health and your skin’s appearance.  Remember, a healthy diet equals healthy skin. Eat colorful foods, drink lots of water and cut back on foods with high levels of salt & oil.

Good skin moisturizers create a barrier between your skin and harsh weather and pollutants in the air. Moisturizers also help your skin retain water & elasticity.  Never leave your skin unprotected. It’s important to moisturize every time you wash and use a moisturizer that contains sunscreen.

Harsh and scented cleansing products can strip your skin of its protective oil-based layers.  To prevent this, use unscented & natural products on dry, sensitive skin to maintain the youthful look and supple feel of your skin.

It’s never too early to start taking better care of yourself.  Try it today! Grab a daily multivitamin along with omega-3 and vitamin D supplements. Multivitamins can add a healthy glow & strength to your hair, skin and nails

The key to preventing aging and keeping your skin healthy is SUN PROTECTION. Be sure to wear sun-screen of at least 15 SPF year-round … yes … that means everyday and if you plan on being in the sun for long periods of time, make sure you re-apply your sunscreen every two hours.

Need a daily skin regimen?  Be sure to cleanse with a liquid cleanser 2x a day.  Exfoliate 1-2x a week and moisturize morning and night.  Men who shave need to be sure to use a good toner to avoid skin inflammation and irritation.  Try Tend Skin.

Moisturizers containing key ingredients such as avocado oil, primrose oil, or almond oil are great for protecting your skin and retaining its natural moisture. Moisturizers containing these ingredients also enter into your skin quickly and leave less residue behind.

Foods that are deeply pigmented [like oranges, mangoes, cranberries, etc.] are FULL of anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants work wonders for your skin and help give you a nice healthy glow. Try working at least one anti-oxidant into your diet every this week as an alternative for a bag of chips or a candy bar.

Be sure to work out at least 3x a week.  Increased heart rate is great for blood circulation and full-body detox which are known to result in better-looking skin, shinier hair, and weight loss.

Quiet meditation for at least 10 minutes before starting your day clears your mind and frees you to focus on your most pertinent tasks and thoughts for the day.

Spring Clean Your Skin: 3 Ways To Get Rid Of Dry Winter Skin.

It always comes as a surprise to me how often people fail to realize the amazing benefits of exfoliating. Every native tribe around the world has a solution for this and yet modern day society has replaced the art of exfoliation with expensive soaps and gels, mistaking a clean smell for clean skin. Following are three simple ways you can exfoliate that don’t require a lot of time (no more worrying you will be late for work or that special event) which will result in a natural way to a cleaner living.

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is quick and easy way to exfoliate your body

How to dry brushing

Before you get in the shower start at the bottom of your feet and work your way up your body in small circular motions. The benefits go beyond just removing dead skin cells and toxins from your skin. Following are additional health benefits.

    • Improves digestion and kidney function
    • Stimulates lymphatic system
    • Increase circulation
    • Stress relief
    • Reduce the appearance of cellulite

 Body Scrub

Body scrub is a great way to exfoliate and simultaneously hydrates your skin. The sensorial experience after a long day is priceless, which is why I decided to take my years of experience and create a fabulous body scrub you will fall in love with.  The ingredients are clove infusion, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil  It smells amazing!  – Begin with wet skin in the shower—warm water is ideal to soften the skin.

-Allow the shower to run for 5 minutes and let the warm water soften the skin and prepare for exfoliation.-Pause the running water while you exfoliate. _Apply the body scrub in a circular motion massaging into the skin. Concentrate on problem areas.Pay particular attention to areas of your body with rough skin, such as elbows, knees and feet.

-Rinse the scrub off from your body and pat dry. There is no need to use body lotion after shower after using my Be Bonita Naturals Turmeric Body Scrub

Cream. Lotion. Oil: What is the difference?

Cream. Lotion. Oil: What is the difference?

When it comes to the differences between oils, creams and lotions most people tend to mistake them for each other, although the trio looks similar, there are notable differences between them. Each product has their own unique purpose and it is important to be able to distinguish each of these products and not confuse them for each other. This will enable you to choose the best product for your skin type.  Check out the differences below.

A lotion is a low viscosity topical preparation intended for application to unbroken skin, they are prepared by blending oil and water. However since it is quite impossible for oil to mix with water, wax is needed to emulsify them, lotions usually contain more water, they are more like droplets of oil mixed in water.

Unlike creams, lotions like, Cerave Moisturizing Lotion, are more easily absorbed into the skin, as they are designed to penetrate the skin, and they are also not as sticky as other products. They are usually appropriate for normal to combination skin. It is appropriate to use lotions on a hot day when quick absorption is needed. The majority of lotions are sold in bottles.

Creams are heavier and have a higher viscosity compared to a lotion, they usually contain about 50% water and 50% oil, they absorb slower than lotions because of the higher percentage of wax in it, creams can penetrate the skin and provide a barrier that prevent more moisture loss from the skin than lotions. I love Carriello Facial Cream Anti-Aging Cream. This cream is rich in vitamin E and antioxidants

Their moisturizing ability tend to last more than that of other brands, so it is usually recommended for skins that tend to be dry at certain times of the day or year. Because of their viscosity they are usually sold in jars.

Oils look just as they sound , this is purely oil , with no addition of water or any other liquid additives, they have an extremely high nutrient content, they are also 100% active. While some oil might take quite a while to get absorbed into the skin, such as sweet almond oil and castor oil because of their molecule structure. But most natural oils are quickly absorbed faster than that of lotions and creams.

Oils protect the skin’s lipid barrier and they are quite the best at preventing moisture from evaporating from the skin, some people have the idea that oils block the pores and leaves a greasy film on the skin,  which is not true, unless you’re using Vaseline. Please tell me you don’t!? Natural oils are perfect for all skin types, especially oily skin. One major advantage of Oil over the other products are that they do not contain preservatives. Therefore they are highly concentrated with good sfuff.

Creams, lotions, oils is there really a difference?
